The hidden treasure

THE HIDDEN TREASUR Rabindranath Tagore is a celebrated Indian writer who wrote several poems, short stories and novels. He is the only Indian writer to win a Nobel Prize for Literature. Tagore’s short stories are read all over the world and especially India simply for their middle class flavour and a simultaneous modern approach. Besides depicting a vivid picture of Bengal, the stories also represent a complex and varied picture of a society in transition. His stories evoke emotion and humour and are a treat for the readers. ‘The Hidden Treasure’ revolves around a mysterious treasure hidden in a village called Dharagole. The key to the treasure is a map which now lies with Mrityunjay. Before him, his grandfather and father also tried deciphering the map but none of them succeeded. They spent all their time searching for the treasure and thus became paupers. But Mrityunjay is determined to find the treasure and follows a sanyasi who he thinks has stolen the map and thus reaches Dharagole.
